Alex Turner on the Arctic Monkeys second Album

Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys fame has been talking about his band's new record, which is due out this Spring.
Quoted from Drowned In Sound:
"The songs are very different from last time. For the first album we locked ourselves away in the middle of nowhere, whereas this time we've been out in the Smoke, going out and stuff," said Turner, who has been rather conspicuous on the London club scene of late. "I think that's maybe reflected in the songs a little bit. "

It seems like we are in for a treat of a different kind than before. Lets hope that energy, rhythm and tunes are still to central to the Monkeys output.

Over 3,000 votes cast in the poll for best of 2006 gave the Arctic Monkeys top place.

In Metadish's review of the year he puts the Arctic Monkeys album top for music in 2006:

I still can't believe this album didn't blow up huge here in the states. It is by far the catchiest neo-punk (not post-punk as some critics wrongly label it) I've ever heard. If you avoided the Arctic Monkeys due to all the slightly ridiculous hype, go back and give them a listen now."

It's that time of year when everyone lists their top ten of everything. Anyway, here are the Arctic Monkeys at number one for Kelefa Sanneh in the NY Times:

A new album in aid of Artists Project Earth includes reworked tracks from artists including the Arctic Monkeys.

" 'Rhythms Del Mundo: Cuba' is a collaborative album that fuses Cuba's beloved The Buena Vista Social Club and some of today's biggest artists such as U2, Coldplay, Sting, Radiohead as well as some of the buzziest bands, including The Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand and The Kaiser Chiefs.

"The project, which is being launched simultaneously in 57 countries around the world in mid-November, is in aid of Artists Project Earth (APE), which lends support for natural disaster relief and climate change awareness."

A good cause, and a good album.

Reports are going around that the Arctic Monkeys are joining up with another British star, hip-hop ster, Dizzee Rascal to create a different sound for their second album. The British newspaper "The Sun", reports "The Monkeys want to surprise people with the album. "

Maybe, maybe not. But whatever they do, The Arctic Monkeys have the talent to invent something to wow us with.

"The Arctic Monkeys came out of nowhere. By the time anyone had any idea what was going on, they'd already broken the all-time first-week debut sales record in the UK. the great one that this group will probably make in time. This is

Arctic Monkeys - was their success manufactured?

There are rumours that the band's phenomenal surge to success was somehow engineered by manipulating stories on the internet. But Stuart Knight of X-Taster (who work for Domino, the Arctic Monkeys label) has denied this.

Their success is the genuine article.

So be it.

Arctic Monkeys are a four-piece indie rock band from High Green, Sheffield, England. Their debut single, 'I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor', went straight to number one in the UK Singles Chart. The British press is catching on to the Arctic Monkeys at last. There was a piece in the Observer Magazine at the weekend, 4 pages of pretty good stuff. Plenty of background, a good appreciation of their stage impact (wow!) and very positive about the music.

The Arctic Monkeys are mainstream!
